Back in June we decide to visit another part of the British coastline and stayed for a week in Whitby in North Yorkshire. It was the first time we had visited Yorkshire and we were very impressed with the beautiful landscape and having arrived there was plenty to see without having to travel far.
We initially booked the holiday last Autumn - this was after we had ordered a new electric car with an anticipated arrival date of September 2019. At the beginning of December we were informed that the car was available before Christmas and having taken it ,we were then concerned about the complications of recharging the car on the way and during our stay! The car does about 280 miles (450km) between recharges. The journey was 350 miles (563km). Even though our cottage was not located near a car parking space we managed it without too many hiccups (apart from forgetting the password for one of the recharging apps!) our total travelling getting there and back amazingly cost us just £4!
With the Gothic remains of Whitby Abbey, connections with Captain Cook and Dracula, narrow streets, a history of ship building, fishing, whitby jet and popular as an Edwardian tourist destination there was lots to explore and admire in Whitby!
We enjoyed travelling along the coast and discovering small coastal villages. This was Runswick Bay, we loved the quirky cottages clinging to the cliffs and huge sandy beaches to run along. ( that's Tavi not us!)
Further along the coast in Staithes we came across a valerian plant covered in fluttering Painted Lady butterflies. it was quite a sight!
You could just imagine fishermen returning after a fishing trip. The steep climb must have kept them fit!
The weather was mixed but we did enjoy some amazing sunsets.
The highlight of the holiday was the walk 8 miles along the coast to Robin Hood's Bay.

Our final day included a trip to Scarborough, which including a free recharge at Lidl and another walk along a beach before heading back towards Whitby and to the beautiful hidden Falling Foss Tea garden. We were lucky enough to get in one of the last orders before they closed early for a wedding!

Finally a view of the cottage, it was a fantastic holiday I just wished I had not forgotten to recharge the camera before leaving home - most of these pictures were taken with my mobile phone. It's never had so much use, I rarely use it for phone calls or messages!
