Gareth Widdop provides updates on the current situation

Gareth Widdop has posted an update on his current quarantine situation in Australia.

For Widdop – as well as other Super League stars like Hull FC’s Josh Reynolds, Castleford Tigers ‘”Cheyse Blair” and Catalans Dragons’ Josh Drinkwater – a two-week quarantine is required upon arrival in Australia.

Of course, given the high temperatures of the Australian summer and the often small hotel rooms that people have to stay in before they can go out, it means that the two weeks are often very uncomfortable.

And, for Warrington star Wolves Widdop, the awkward aspect of quarantine provoked an angry response.

The British director had previously taken to Instagram to show his frustrations with the current situation, stating: “Quarantine is inhuman Australia” with a clenched fist emoji.

And now he’s snapped a shot from his hotel window with a coffee in hand as he seems to be getting closer to external freedom.

The 32-year-old endured a tough 2020 Super League season before impressing enough in 2021 to be included in the Man of Steel shortlist, although he ultimately lost to Sam Tomkins.

However, Widdop’s big season in 2021 is even more impressive when you consider that the halfback has been without his family for most of the year, with his partner and children returning home.
